Barraquer, the first Professor of Ophthalmology in Spain

Jose Antonio Barraquer, founded in 1903 the Ophthalmological Society of Barcelona and he was the first Professor of Ophthalmology in Spain. After him, his descendants have continued his passion until nowadays.

Internationally, Barraquer stands as a reference in corneal transplants. It is the first center in Spain to implement the revolutionary chip Argus II, to increase visual perception in some blindness cases. It also houses the first eye bank in Europe, founded in 1962.
