Dr. Santiago is a cardiologist in Barcelona. His main areas of expertise include coronary heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, valvular heart disease and myocarditis, as well as critical situations such as acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock. He has experience in advanced technologies such as mechanical circulatory support with ECMO and ventricular assist. In addition, he is involved in the prevention and management of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, dyslipidaemia and obesity, helping patients to maintain a healthy heart.
With more than 10 years of experience, Dr. Santiago not only cares for his patients' hearts, but also leads initiatives to advance prevention, early diagnosis and innovative treatments in the cardiovascular field, implementing personalised strategies to optimise patient care.
Education
Dr. Santiago Montero graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2004-2010), specialising in Cardiology after completing his residency at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Barcelona (2011-2016). He completed a stay in New York (Montefiore Medical Center) focused on advanced heart failure and transplantation (2015), and later a fellowship in the Medical Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital La Pitié-Salpêtrière, Paris (2016-2017), under the supervision of Prof. Alain Combes, where he specialised in cardiogenic shock and ECMO venoarterial support. She also holds a Master in Acute Cardiac Care from the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (2017-2019) and a PhD from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, with a thesis entitled ‘Prognostic factors of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in patients with cardiogenic shock: Study of microcirculation, ECMO flow and ventilatory strategies’, graded Cum laude.
He has actively participated in the publication of numerous scientific articles in prestigious international journals, as well as in the presentation of papers at congresses specialising in critical cardiovascular care, consolidating his career as a reference in his field.
