What are ADHD and ASD?
ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can manifest from childhood to adulthood. It is characterized by:
- Difficulties maintaining attention
- Impulsiveness
- Motor hyperactivity
It is not a question of willpower, but rather a distinct neurological functioning that affects areas of the brain responsible for emotional regulation, motivation, and executive control.
Although many people occasionally show distraction or restlessness, in the case of ADHD, these symptoms significantly interfere with school performance, work, or social relationships. They commonly appear in childhood and can continue into adulthood if not treated properly.
There are three main subtypes:
- Predominantly inattentive
- Predominantly hyperactive/impulsive
- Combined
ASD – Autism Spectrum Disorder
ASD encompasses a range of conditions that affect how a person perceives their environment, communicates, and interacts with others. Its expression is highly diverse, hence the term "spectrum."
Some common features:
- Difficulties in communication and social interaction
- Repetitive behaviors or intense, specific interests
- Rigidity in routines or thought patterns
- Hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity to sensory stimuli
Early diagnosis and an interdisciplinary approach make a difference in personal, academic, and social development.

Do you have any suspicions?
Detecting warning signs early is key to effective intervention.
Signs of possible ADHD:
- Persistent problems concentrating
- Impulsiveness or difficulty waiting for one's turn
- Constant restlessness or need to move around
Signs of possible ASD:
- Delays in language development or unusual use of language.
- Little spontaneous social interaction.
- Repetitive behaviors, rigid routines.
- Intense reactions to sounds, lights, or textures (sensory stimuli).
If you or your child exhibit several of these signs, it is advisable to seek professional evaluation.
Our evaluation protocol
A clear, structured, and empathetic process to understand what each patient truly needs.
The treatment of ADHD and ASD at Turó Park Clinics begins with a protocol divided into three phases. Our goal is to provide an accurate diagnosis and a therapeutic plan tailored to each case.
During these initial visits, one of our specialist doctors collects all of the patient's clinical information, including medical history, current symptoms, and family or school environment. The following is performed:
- Complete medical history.
- Direct observation of behavior and structured interviews.
- Identification of possible signs of ADHD or ASD.
This first step helps us determine whether it is necessary to move forward with a more in-depth assessment.
At this stage, the specialist psychologist conducts a detailed analysis of the patient's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This process consists of:
- Clinical interview and medical history:
During the first session, key information is gathered about the patient's development from birth to the present:
- Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
- Motor, language, and social development.
- Interests, parenting style, and family routines.
- General physical health, sensory perception.
- School performance, attention, impulsivity.
- Self-esteem and emotional behavior.
- Application of specific tests:
In this second session, the appropriate tests are selected according to the needs of each case. Some of the tools that can be used are:
- WAIS-IV (general intelligence in adults).
- WISC-V (intelligence in children).
- IDA-5 and RAADS (specific tools for diagnosing autism).
- DIVA 2.0 (ADHD assessment in adults).
- Interview with family members and supplementary questionnaires:
If possible, an interview with immediate family members is included to obtain more context, and validated scales are applied, such as:
- ASEBA (emotional and behavioral assessment).
- SRS-2 (measurement of social skills and autism).
- Return of results:
In the final session, the psychologist explains the results in a clear and understandable way. A detailed report is provided, including:
- Diagnosis (if applicable).
- Report with cognitive and emotional profile.
- Therapeutic and educational recommendations.
Once the diagnosis has been made, the doctor in charge will meet with you to establish a personalized treatment plan. This phase includes:
- Clear presentation and explanation of the diagnosis and its implications.
- Proposal for tailored intervention: therapies, academic support, medical follow-up, etc.
- Coordination with the school and other professionals if necessary.
- Follow-up schedule to review progress and adjust strategies.
This approach allows us to provide personalized support to each patient and their family from the first contact until sustained improvement.
Therapies and solutions we offer
Comprehensive therapeutic approaches tailored to each patient:
- TCognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Social skills training
- Family psychoeducation
- School coaching and academic planning
- Medical and pharmacological follow-up when necessary
Why is it important to see a specialist if you suspect ADHD or ASD?
Many people struggle with academic, work, or relationship difficulties without realizing that ADHD or undiagnosed ASD may be the underlying cause. This lack of awareness leads to frustration, low self-esteem, and even isolation.
A clear diagnosis opens the door to understanding, eliminates guilt, and provides access to therapeutic resources that improve quality of life. The sooner action is taken, the greater the positive impact on emotional, academic, and social development.
