Much awaited by European countries particularly dependent on tourism, and especially Spain, the European Digital Green Pass or Covid health pass should come into force on July 1, 2021, for a duration of one year. It will apply to the 27 countries of the European Union as well as Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.

What is the Digital Green Certificate?

The Digital Green Health Certificate will be available, free of charge, in digital or paper format. It will include a QR code to ensure security and authenticity of the certificate.

It will be a proof of one of the following situations:

  • A person has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • A person received a negative test result
  • A person recovered from COVID-19.

The certificates will be available in the official language or languages of the issuing Member State and English.

What is the purpose of EU's Digital Green Certificate?

The Green Certificate will facilitate the movement of people within the European Union and will be used mainly when crossing borders between member countries. However, each state may also decide on its use within its borders, for access to certain places (restaurants, bars, etc.) or events, for example.

What application for the COVID certificate in Spain?

In Catalonia, it can be obtained via the La Meva Salut app.

How to get your Green Pass in Barcelona?

The EU Digital COVID Certificate may be of three different types (vaccination, diagnostic test or recovery) and any of them may be used by travellers to enter Spain, as long as they meet the following criteria:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate. Valid 14 days after receiving the complete regimen. Any vaccine authorised by the European Union (European Medicines Agency, EMA) and WHO will be accepted.
  • Certificate of a diagnostic test for SARSCoV2 with negative result. The following diagnostic tests shall be admissible:
    • NAAT- nucleic acid amplification tests (e.g.: RT-PCR, RT-LAMP, TMA, HAD, NEAR, CRISPR, SDA), with sampling within the previous 72 hours to arrival in Spain.
    • RAT-rapid antigen test, with sampling within the previous 48 hours to arrival in Spain. You can consult the list of rapid tests approved by the European Commission through this link.

A COVID-19 Recovery certificate (valid from day 11 after the first positive NAAT and up to 180 days after the sample date).

Children under the age of 12 years are exempt from submitting these certificates, but not from completing the Health Control Form and obtaining a QR code.
