What is urology?

Urology is a medical specialty that deals with disorders of the urinary tract in men and women, as well as dysfunctions of the genital and reproductive systems in men (prostate, penis, testicles).

It is also a surgical specialty as all urologists are fully trained urological surgeons.

As a reminder, the urinary system includes:

Additional examinations may also be necessary to confirm the diagnosis. This is particularly the case for pelvic ultrasound, bladder fibroscopy, debimetries and urodynamic assessments.

To prepare for your consultation, remember to bring along the results of any tests you may have had before coming. As a general rule, it is better to avoid urinating before the urology consultation as you may have to urinate in a special container during your examination.
